Perched just a short stroll from the golden sands of Onetangi Beach, La Casa Al Mare is a lovingly restored 1930s weatherboard cottage offering sweeping sea views and a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort.
This original Waiheke bach oozes character, with native timber floors, vintage windows, and traditional joinery throughout. While it holds onto its soul, the cottage has been thoroughly updated to include modern conveniences such as high-speed WiFi, Airconditioning/Heat Pump, Smart TV, and a fully equipped kitchen with electric hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, and Nespresso machine.
The heart of the home is the light-filled open-plan living and kitchen area, where stunning, elevated views of Onetangi Bay take centre stage. Large doors open onto generous decks, making it the perfect spot for morning coffee, sunset drinks, or lazy afternoons soaking in the sea air.
La Casa Al Mare sleeps up to five guests across three bedrooms: a peaceful master room with a double bed, a single room in the main house, and a separate sleepout with a double bed – perfect for teens, friends or extra family members.
The modernised bathroom inside the main house features a contemporary shower and vanity, while the toilet is located in a separate exterior room – beautifully refurbished and accessible from both the house and the sleepout.
Tucked into native plantings and bathed in sunlight, this coastal retreat is just a few minutes’ walk from the beach, local eateries, and public transport. Whether you're relaxing on the deck watching the waves or exploring the island’s wineries and walking tracks, La Casa Al Mare is your front-row seat to everything Onetangi has to offer.
Please note that there is a narrow external staircase to access the entrance meaning this may not be suitable for very young children or those with mobility issues. This is an original cottage, with many of its quirks and features retained, please be prepared for slightly wonky floors, and doors that may occasionally need a little persuasion to close, depending on the weather; much of the joinery is almost 100 years old and this is part of the charm of this gorgeous old house. Please note that the indoor fireplace is decommissioned, a modern heatpump keeps the house cosy during the cooler months and cool during the warmer months.
