Walter Peak Station

Queenstown

Walter Peak External View 2

A 65,000 acre primer working   high country sheep station on Lake Wakatipu, it runs 18,00 sheep and 1000 cattle . Located across the lake from Queenstown it offers the ultimate in private luxury living.

The Homestead sits on a hill overlooking Walter Peak, Lake Wakatipu and Mt. Nicholas. This is a two bedroom, 350 sq meter Colorado ski lodge-type residence. It includes an 8 meter high timber frame great room with bar and billiards recreation area, a huge fireplace and TV lounge and two bedrooms with en suite.  The master bedroom has a 4 person hot tub and double shower and sink.

The master bedroom has a terrace balcony and an antique gas fireplace.  The guest bedroom and bath are downstairs off the great room.  Also downstairs are the TV room and a screened sun porch overlooking the beautiful lake Wakatipu and mountains? There is also a half bath on this level.

The kitchen is upstairs and opens to the dining room and sitting room.  French doors open onto a balcony with a barbecue and table for morning tea.  The laundry room and a small half bath are also located on the kitchen level, which is the main entrance to the house.

In addition to the main house, there is also an apartment with a bathroom, bedroom lounge and kitchenette included in the rental.  It is a charming unit for two persons, with breath taking views of Walter Peak and the dramatic mountains ranges behind the Station.

The rental includes the use of a Toyota Surf station wagon, an annual pass to Queenstown on the l912 steamship, Earnslaw, and the use of our private marina should you decide to rent a power boat to fish or explore the lake.  If you are a horseback rider, we can arrange for private guided treks on the Station and even overnight stays at the high country huts.  (The price of these activities are separate from the house rental.)

Cooking is not provided, but dinner can be had at Real Journey’s farm restaurant just 5 km down the road or you may choose to go to dinner in Queenstown, catching the 8 pm steamboat back to the house.

During the ski season you can have a  Helicopter pick you up in the front yard and take you up the mountain for a day of heli skiing in your own backyard.   Or you could even ski down to one of the huts and spend the and spend the night and enjoy the quiet Mountain environment and a romantic hot tub evening. (These are extra activities, thus an extra charge.

Walking tracks are numerous and spectacular – both along the lake and in the high country.  If the great outdoors is your call, then there is nowhere else like this high country experience.
